Job Description: Choir Accompanist

Reports to: Director of Music & Worship

Position Type: Contractor/Quarter-Time

Salary Range: $70 – $110/hour

Job Summary:

LOPC is a gracefully inclusive, Christ-centered church seeking a skilled choral accompanist to support our music ministry. The accompanist plays a vital role in enhancing worship through high-quality musical accompaniment for choir rehearsals, Sunday morning services, and occasional special services.

Schedule & Time Commitment

- Thursday evening rehearsals, 7:00 – 8:30pm

- Sunday worship, 8am call, services at 9 & 10:30am

- Special services (Good Friday, Christmas Eve, occasional seasonal events)

- Estimated hours: 6-8 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

- Accompany adult choir rehearsals.

- Play piano and/or organ for Sunday worship services and scheduled special services (e.g., Christmas Eve, Holy Week).

- Thoroughly prepare assigned choir accompaniments, anthems, and musical selections prior to rehearsals and services.

- Work closely with the Director of Music to support vocal warm-ups, sectionals, and musical direction as needed during rehearsals.

Qualification & Skills

- Advanced proficiency in piano accompaniment with strong sight-reading skills and sensitivity to choral ensemble playing (Organ skills are a plus but not required).

- Previous experience accompanying church choirs, community choruses, or academic vocal ensembles preferred.

- Ability to play a diverse range of sacred choral repertoire, including traditional classical anthems, contemporary sacred music, and hymns.

- Dependable, punctual, organized, and collaborative with strong interpersonal skills.

- Respect for the mission, values, and worship traditions of LOPC.
