Job Description and Application Instructions: We are searching for a Music Director and Accompanist to lead the music ministry of the congregation. Music is essential to the worship and community life at Church of the Resurrection, and it reflects our diverse experiences of God and the world. We take joy in having a liturgy with a wide range of musical offerings. We sing chants from the Orthodox, Taizé, and Iona communities; hymns from the Anglican tradition and beyond; jazz, folk, spirituals, summer camp songs, and more. We celebrate our musical history, and we also delight in exploring new music that may nurture those who are yet to join this community. We believe that making music is a gift and responsibility that belongs to the whole congregation, and we are eager to build on our practice of supporting and empowering everyone to take part in its creation.
The ideal candidate would: Be a strong piano player and gifted accompanist; a competent organist is preferred but not
required, Have experience and passion as a choral director; be a confident singer, Be eager to teach, support, and challenge singers of all ages and skill levels in developing new skills, learning music theory, and making music together, Have skills to grow a choir and support the whole congregation in continuing to develop as singers, Have demonstrated people skills, and be able to work comfortably with a wide range of musical styles and with musicians with a range of abilities, from kids to adult learners to professionals, preferably with experience involving youth in music ministry, Guide musicians and others in their Christian faith, leading the choir as a pastoral ministry: be comfortable leading spiritual reflections and prayers as part of rehearsals, Be ready to build upon our success exploring creative expressions of music, improvising throughout the service, singing paperless music together, and continuing to experiment, Appreciate the gifts of a professional saxophone and clarinet player who contributes significantly to our music ministry, Be courageous in pursuing creativity and be willing to try new things, Appreciate working on a team and value collaboration, both with staff and volunteers; and be able to work together thoughtfully, playfully, and with good humor, Bring experience managing a music program at a liturgical church (preferably Episcopal), and have an understanding of the role of music in the liturgical calendar and lectionary,Have flexibility to tackle other music program duties as assigned, in particular around, holidays and special events, Be highly proficient in reading music and writing musical notation, be comfortable using music notation software.

10:15 am Sunday service, and developing programs in collaboration with staff and volunteers. Reports to the rector.
